Mount Watatic Professional Review and Guide
"The southern terminus of the 21-mile Wapack Trail and the northern terminus of the 92-mile Midstate Trail, Mount Watatic’s domed summit provides extensive views of eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. With the mountain destined to be yet another telecommunications facility in early 2000, members of the Ashby and Ashburnham Land Trusts organized the “Campaign for Watatic” to protect its unique natural and scenic qualities. In 2002, the campaign succeeded in the permanent protection of the summit, which today forms the heart of a nearly 1000-acre collection of conserved lands. Thanks to these efforts, outdoor enthusiasts can forever enjoy this scenic mountain named for an Algonquin word meaning “wigwam place.” Watatic makes visitors feel at home throughout the year."
