Mount Greylock Loop

Mount Greylock Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This short overnight loop uses the Hopper Trail, the Money Brook Trail, and the A.T. to form a hike through the Mount Greylock State Reservation, which is situated on 11,000 acres.

The highlight is the summit of Mount Greylock (the highest point in Massachusetts), where the first observation tower in the nation to charge admission was once located. The summit now boasts the Massachusetts War Memorial (no fee), a stone structure on the site of the former observation tower."

"Towering nearly 1000 feet over the rest of southern New England, Mount Greylock’s 3491-foot summit shines in the heart of the Berkshires. Traversed by a popular road and frequented by many visitors, the mountain can feel overwhelming to hikers seeking tranquillity. Fortunately, Mount Greylock is blessed with a network of trails that leads adventurers to quieter vistas, roaring streams, forested ridgelines, tumbling waterfalls, and wildlife-filled hollows. This daylong excursion, with overnight opportunities, will invigorate and invite you to partake in future treks to its heights. Choose midweek or offseason to avoid crowds; otherwise, smile and add people-watching to your day’s entertainment." Read more
