"Wonderful views of Lake Tahoe from the top of Castle Rock requiring a short hike and a little bit of rock climbing will reward hikers grandly for a minimal investment of time and energy. Although technical climbing skills are necessary to scale the fourth-class rock and reach the actual summit, a slightly lower pinnacle nearby offers similar views with just a bit of easy scrambling required. If not for the climbing and the exposed aerie of the summit, the trip would be well suited for families with young children." Read more

Awesome views of Tahoe and the Sierra. This is a really nice workout with some some steep ascents but not too strenuous. Some rock climbing and scrambling is involved if you want to get to the very top of the rock. Very tranquil and the view at the end is amazing!

little under 4 miles from Andria Dr parking, little bursts of elevations, plenty of switchbacks. last bit required some good rock climbing skills, but the view was worth it. felt really proud of ourselves until we noticed a group of hikers at the top with their dog who had easily made the climb...

A few nice views along the way from the TRT section. OK views of the lake from the Castle at trail level. You need to climb for the best views. Beginning section - the old road - is closed. You start at the other end of the parking lot on the TRT. A nice outing with light snow.

The trail gives you the illusion that you are going downhill the whole time (okay, there is one small steep section). Follow the trail around the Castle to get the spectacular view. You will not be sorry you took the time.
