Sheltowee Trace: S Tree Campground to Turkey Foot Campground Professional Review and Guide
"This section of the Sheltowee Trace is more appealing to off-road vehicle riders than it is to hikers. However, Trace thru-hikers and section hikers must do this part of the trail to join the ranks of those who have hiked every foot of Kentucky’s master path. In addition, after you get used to walking an off-road vehicle path, you will appreciate the ease of hiking, while at times cursing the mud holes.
This section of the Trace does have some attractive segments, including the Hooten Branch Valley, the ridgeline above Elisha Branch, and especially the Elsam Fork Valley just before Turkey Foot Campground. Road walking is limited in this section. Hikers should try to time their passage through this section to a weekday if possible––if so, you may not see a motorized vehicle on the trail. Highs: Rich upland hardwood forests, and Elsam Fork Valley. Lows: Entire segment open to unlicensed off-road vehicles."
