Headquarters Campground Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This campground is in the center of the action at Mammoth Cave. All visitors owe it to themselves to head underground and explore part of the world’s largest known cave system.

After your obligatory underground tours, take some time to see the less-heralded above-ground features of this protected swath of the Bluegrass State."

We stayed one night in the Headquarters Campground and found it to be a beautiful and very well maintained campground, especially nice for tent camping. The author correctly identifies sites 76, 78, and 80 as the best, but since they were already taken, we stayed in 68. It was also very nice! This National Park is a gem...don't miss out on the opportunities for hiking and biking above ground!
