Sheltowee Trace: Kentucky River to Red River Gorge Professional Review and Guide
"This trail section has a little bit of everything. Start with a road walk from the depths of the Kentucky River Valley at Heidelberg to make KY 52. Head a short distance on KY 52 to New Virginia Ridge and enter the Big Sinking Creek Valley, where the creek has cut a significant gorge in a sizeable chunk of forest land.
Leave this creek and head up the attention-grabbing Little Sinking Creek Valley, where the water normally flows underground. Here, craggy boulders and rocks of every shape and description line the creekbed and are flanked by steep-sided rock walls. The valley suddenly becomes more pedestrian, only to become rough again just below a cave, where the creek reemerges. Highs: Little Sinking Creek caves, The Narrows, Natural Bridge, Whittleton Arch, Red River Gorge, and views. Lows: Two road walks."
