Jesse Stuart State Nature Preserve Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A lovely, tree-lined ridgetop and an old barn and cabin in a wild flower-laden meadow are the highlights of this loop hike in rural northeastern Kentucky. This 733-acre state nature preserve in W-Hollow was once the home of Jesse Stuart
(1906–1984), a prolific novelist, poet, and short-story writer whose works focused on eastern Kentucky hill life.
W-Hollow figured prominently in both his fiction and real life. If you want to get a feel for Stuart’s writings, try Head o’ W-Hollow, a collection of short stories, or The Thread That Runs So True, about his experience as a teacher."
