Turkey Bay Off-Road-Vehicle Area

Turkey Bay Off-Road-Vehicle Area Professional Review and Guide

"The 2,350 acres of the Turkey Bay ORV Area represent a large network of challenging single-track trail. Nobody knows the exact number of miles available for riding here. It is recommended only for experienced riders. The trails vary from wide, smooth hardpack in the bottoms and on the ridges to paths of loose, washed-out rock on some of the trails leading between the ridges and hollows.

Choosing trails that follow ridges and bottomlands will result in the most enjoyable rides. The payoff for fighting your way to the tops of the ridges is in challenging technical descents back to the bottomlands. These trails are located 2 miles southwest of Golden Pond Visitor Center in Land Between the Lakes."

Great trail system. Something for every kind of rider! Plenty of challenging hills, along with some great master trails. Master trails were very wide, easy to ride for anyone. If master trails are not for you, there are very many secondary trails. Main complaints were the rockiness of the park and the lack of deep mud. There was plenty of mud near the lake, but no we found no holes that were too challenging. This may have just been our bad luck, as we only rode for about 4 hours. Also, beware of dead end trails. My dad wound up turning his ATV over trying to turn around, came home with a bruised lung. All in all, Turkey Bay is a very nice place to ride with something for every rider.

Though spring and fall are great times to mountain bike in Kentucky because of their cooler temperatures, winter riding is great on this system. Fewer ORVs are out then, so you can have the trail to yourself.
