Rough River Rough River Dam to Green River

Rough River: Rough River Dam to Green River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Rough River is not very rough but extremely canoeable. Running east to west over a rock bottom through wooded hill country and farmland, the Rough River is typically high-banked and shaded with willow and various hardwoods.

The Rough can be paddled all year from the tailwater of the Rough River Lake Dam to its mouth at the Green River near Livermore. Water quality is generally fair to good. Lateral erosion along the steep banks has exposed many tree roots and has caused a substantial number of deadfalls. The river’s width averages from 50 to 70 feet throughout."

Rough River Dam State Resort Park is a great place to set up camp or to rent a cottage or lodge room when you’re planning to paddle and otherwise explore this area. Rough River Lake is in within the park, and you can paddle from there to the Rough River and down to the headwaters of the Green River, which start near Dundee. It is a beautiful area to enjoy Class I & II paddling, so it is a good choice for beginning paddlers and anyone who wants to enjoy Kentucky’s natural beauty. The full stretch is a almost 24 miles, but there are plenty of access points along the way so you can paddle whatever portion you prefer. It’s a great spot to paddle just about any time of year.
