Dog Slaughter Falls

Dog Slaughter Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This walk takes you from magnificent Cumberland Falls to a far smaller but delightful waterfall downstream. The return leg is on trails noted for wild flowers. This hike takes you from the state park overlooks at Cumberland Falls down the Cumberland River to a 15-foot-high waterfall on Dog Slaughter Creek.

In comparison to its mighty neighbor, Dog Slaughter Falls is a mere trickle—but it’s a lovely trickle in a picturesque setting of rocky cliff s and big boulders. There’s another difference as well. The Cumberland Falls viewing area is paved with concrete and full of people. At the pint-size falls, chances are it will just be you."

We made it out to Dog Slaughter Falls a few weekends ago and had a blast. We started at Cumberland Falls and found the trail only a little challenging (some rocky, tricky, slippery spots) but once we reached the falls they were so pretty. The water is cool and refreshing, welcoming after the trek in. A great hike, beautiful the whole way.
