This is a nice sunday afternoon hike for the average hiker. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the top, wich offer an awesome vue east and south over the eastern Kentucky hills. I only wish their would be better views to the west over the Blue Grass Plateau. But trees and brush hide the view at the western cliff line. The hike could be prolonged by going on the Sage Point loop trail.

I have to say that the overlook at the top was stunning. I did try the Sage Point loop, but had to turn back after completing 2/3's of the loop because I couldn't find the trails continuation. Lot's of spider webs, poison ivy and ticks on the trail. I would recommend just going to the overlook. No one else on the trail. Hike was steady uphill (bring water). Trail was well marked (except the end of Sage Point)

This is a wonderful trail to hike if you are looking for solitude. During my two hour stay I did not encounter any other hikers. The hike is rated easy, but the trek up to Pilots Knobs is a steady incline. Most hikers should be able to make it if they just take their time. The view at the top is worth the hike.

A friend and I enjoyed the ascent to Pilot Knob, the view was great. We took a side trail on the way back down, which was a good workout. I don't think it is recognized on a lot of the trail maps. It is about an hour walk off the original trail, which eventually joins the original trail with about a half mile to go.
