Wet Prong - McCoy Hollow Connector Trail

Wet Prong - McCoy Hollow Connector Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is the shortest backcountry trail in the park. It serves to connect the Wet Prong of Buffalo Loop Trail and the McCoy Hollow Trail. The trail itself is in fair to good condition and sees moderate to heavy traffic.

The path leaves the Wet Prong of Buffalo Loop Trail beside the flowing waters of Wet Prong and climbs to a more level area on the side of the valley. At this point the path turns downstream well above Wet Prong, shaded by a rich deciduous forest dominated by oaks. The path curves with the valley and passes over a pair of streamlets. To your left the valley rises; to your right it drops off to Wet Prong. The level part of the valley narrows before intersecting the McCoy Hollow Trail at 0.5 mile. From this junction it is 0.5 mile left to the Collie Ridge Trail, and to your right, it reaches Houchins Ferry Road at 5.3 miles.

Mammoth Cave National Park has many interpretive trails. Most are short and fun to walk; all are designed to display and inform visitors about the unique natural beauty that the park offers. The vast majority of interpretive trails are concentrated between the visitor center and the Green River, in the general vicinity of the park accommodations and cave tour areas, allowing you to easily incorporate an aboveground stroll with your visit."
