Trail Biking in Mammoth Cave National Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Trail Biking Pedaling opportunities have improved at the national park over the last few years. Expect them to get better. At one time, the Headquarters Bicycle Trail was the single venue for pedalers. Then Sal Hollow Trail was opened to mountain bikers.

As of late, the Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail has given visitors an exciting new chance to get out and cycle. This guide includes Headquarters Campground Bike Trail and Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail. Both are in excellent condition moderate to heavy use."

This trail actually goes all the way from the visitors center to Park City now. We followed it as far as Diamond Caverns before turning back because the stretch from Diamond Caverns to Park City seemed to be out of the woods and less scenic. The trail from the Visitor Center to the Diamond Caverns was really lovely...mostly shaded by the woods. There were a number of interesting sights along the way, including some old cemeteries and the remains of some of the original settlers' homesites. The Park Service has installed interpretive signs along the way that explain the history, geology and ecology of the region that added to the experience. A very well done trail!
