General Butler State Park

General Butler State Park Professional Review and Guide

"This pleasant hike through woods and open meadows includes a side trip to a stone lookout that provides a view of the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers. General Butler State Park, one of Kentucky’s first parks, is named for General William O. Butler and includes a 300-acre tract of former farmland owned by him.

The park preserves the old Butler family home, which was built in 1859 and is now open for tours. The family cemetery and final resting place of the general are nearby. Butler was a well-known soldier and statesman. He served in the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War. He was a congressman and ran unsuccessfully for governor of Kentucky and vice president of the United States."
