Mammoth Cave Big Hollow Loop Trails Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"These loop trails offer quiet contemplative walking in a less visited area of Mammoth Cave National Park. Mammoth Cave, the most extensive cave system in the world, has more than 365 miles of known underground passageways and possibly hundreds more that are not yet discovered. Mammoth Cave National Park wasn’t fully established until 1941, but is one of the oldest tourist attractions in the United States.
The park’s 53,000 aboveground acres—37 square miles—are a lesser-known attraction but cover scores of wooded hollows and ridges above the Green River. The river itself is a popular destination for paddlers and anglers. The park contains 66 miles of trails, many of them open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. In the spring the wooded hillsides are painted with a variety of colorful wildfl owers, and small creeks with numerous waterfalls are active."
