The trip from kansas city to Louisburg and towns south is
taken along 69 highway. Louisburg is a quiet, but booming
community with several very good places to eat along with an
obervatory and modern attractions. Farther south you will
encounter historic Fort Scott and further south Pittsburg.
The highway from Louisburg to Ft. Scott and Pittsburg has
been recently improved and is much safer than it was several years
ago. A fall trip is really nice with the colorfull leaves and
crop fields along the way. Fort Scott has a Park Service site
of an old fort as you enter the town on the west hillside. Pittsburg
is the home of Pittsburg State University and is town that has many places
to eat, especially if you like fried chicken. There is chicken Marys and
and chicken Annies both are excellent and you really should not visit and not
stop at one or the other. Make sure to check out the old strip mining pits along the
highway and around the Pittsburg area they have been reclaimed and provide rolling topography
in the otherwise somewhat flat landscape.
