Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

Valerie Askren
"The Mogan Ridge East Trail lies at the southern end of Hoosier National Forest, just north of the Ohio River and west of Louisville. The hike can easily be shortened if you want a little less mileage. While most trails in Hoosier are open to equestrian riders and mountain bikers, Mogan Ridge East is for hikers only. The combined wooded and open meadow trail is excellent for year-round hiking, and the wide path easily accommodates large groups or twosomes who wish to walk side-by-side."

Phil Bloom
"The trail meanders through an abandoned farm field, over a narrow ridge, and across a shallow creek. It requires a little history lesson to understand how Mogan Ridge East got its name, considering the fact that no part of the trail is within a mile of Mogan Ridge. Once part of a larger multiuse trail, Mogan Ridge East has been set aside exclusively for hikers. Mogan Ridge West, which in part traverses Mogan Ridge, is an 11.0-mile trail that is open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. The two trails are connected by a 0.5-mile spur. Although only half as long, Mogan Ridge East is just as challenging as its counterpart. The trail is marked with white diamonds and is easy to follow. Orange diamonds mark the new connector trail. Traffic typically is light."
