The days of dust bowls are long behind us, but this trail, born out of the Great Depression, lives on as a tribute to American endurance. Generations of hikers have enjoyed the trail since the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) carved it into the slopes and ridges around Abe Martin Lodge in the 1930s. The hike also passes several examples of CCC-style building construction, including the North Lookout Tower, with its sweeping views.
