Mount Baldy Hike Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"One of the tallest dunes on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Mount Baldy is a popular outdoor attraction just west of Michigan City, Indiana, renowned for its height and its strange views of a controversial power plant looming nearby and the distant Chicago skyline on a crisp, clear day. Although the grasses and cottonwood trees around the dune’s base are doing their best to keep Mount Baldy in one place, it still wanders south at a rate of 5 feet a year. So if you’d like a ride to Valparaiso, just hop on and wait about 20,000 years. This extremely short hike to the summit is nevertheless challenging because of a very steep slope toward the end, as well as some difficult footing. But even if you can’t make it to the top, a side trail leads to a popular beach with great views of this moving mountain from far below."
