Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore-West Beach Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"Take in great views on high dunes topped with marram grass, jack pine, and cottonwood trees. Coming off the dunes, the trail runs along a scenic lake, through a sandy savanna, and into dense woodland.
It’s not just the high dunes and a long, sandy beach that make hiking at West Beach such a satisfying experience. What makes this hike so engaging is how the landscape and plants magically transform ever y half mile or so. As you move from the beach to the dunes to the wooded ridges to the savanna to a large lily-pad pond, it seems the landscape is always changing.
Dogs are prohibited on the section of the trail that runs along the beach but permitted elsewhere on the trail (on leash no longer than 6 feet)."
