Hemlock Cliffs National Scenic Trail

Hemlock Cliffs National Scenic Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This trail leads through a box canyon draped with hemlock and featuring seasonal waterfalls and high sandstone cliffs.

The German Ridge area of the Hoosier National Forest is primarily devoted to horseback riding, but hikers get to see a slice of it with this loop trail, which is described here in a clockwise direction. The trailhead behind the picnic shelter can be a little tricky to find, but the trail itself is a wide path and easy to follow. It doesn’t take long to get to the focal point of this brief hike. After crossing a footbridge at 0.1 mile, the striking sandstone cliffs are almost immediately visible. Even on the hottest of summer days, the tree-shaded cliffs can be a cool setting."
