Heron Rookery Trail

Heron Rookery Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This linear trail along Little Calumet River includes a stop at a heron rookery. Herons are stork-like wading birds with long legs and pointed bills. There are about 50 species of herons worldwide, and the great blue heron is the largest American species.

This trail is very narrow, and on wet days this can be a sloppy, slipper hike. Footing can be a little tricky at places where the river has washed out the bank. This area is rich in widlflowers."
