While following this levee through a Mississippi River floodplain, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding terrain, which is a mix of urban, residential, and rural areas; wetland and cropland; and drainage canals and ponds. Near the end of the route, you’ll see the downtown buildings of St. Louis in the distance and have an opportunity to visit a courthouse and a church that are remnants from when Illinois was a French colony.
