Lost Bridge Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This well-used trail on the west side of Springfield takes you through a wooded landscape, over a couple bridges, and alongside a handsome community park. In the community of Rochester at the south end of the trail, you’ll learn about a historic meeting between a former president and Abraham Lincoln when he served in the Illinois legislature. The Lost Bridge Trail runs along a railroad corridor between the east edge of Springfield and the nearby village of Rochester. The trail’s name refers to an old train bridge over Sugar Creek at the beginning of the route that was sold for scrap metal by the railroad company. Fortunately one of the two old bridges that were once along this stretch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad remain. The remaining bridge spans the South Fork of the Sangamon River near Rochester. The first section of the trail brushes against a reservoir that sits behind the large Illinois Department of Transportation building."
