“Oh the Rock Island Line is a mighty fine line/Oh the Rock Island Line is the road to ride.” This sage advice offered by Johnny Cash and countless other musicians has granted the train line celebrity status. As you explore this piece of an American icon, you’ll enjoy the wooded ravines, the pastoral scenery, the many bridges over winding prairie creeks, and the quiet little towns along the way. The long tunnel under IL 6 comes at 1.4 miles. It’s narrow and dark as night. If you’re riding a bike, dismount. Occasionally the trail crosses busy streets—usually these streets are closer to the towns. Traffic is very mild on all on-street sections in the small towns of Dunlap, Princeville, and Wyoming.
