    Red Hills State Park

Red Hills State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"All campsites at this medium-sized state park are well shaded with maple, oak, and beech trees. A handful of sites at the main campground are nestled against a forty-acre lake. The nearby tenting campground, which occupies a gently sloping bank on the shore of the lake, is active with birds flitting among the trees. The park’s restaurant offers a dining area overlooking the lake. A 2-mile hiking trail in the northern section of the park runs through wooded ravines that in spring and summer are sprinkled with wildflowers.

Continuing to the top of Red Hill, the trail provides commanding views of the surrounding pastoral landscape. The park sits on the boundary that once was the westernmost edge of the first land in Illinois ceded by Native Americans to the United States."
