    Fort Massac State Park

Fort Massac State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Illinois’ first state park is on the shore of the Ohio River at the edge of the town of Metropolis. A replica of a timber fort built in 1802 serves as the centerpiece of the park. Between 1757 and the Civil War, French, English, and U.S. forces each housed troops here. The flat camping area is well shaded with oak and maple trees.

The park visitor center has on display a collection of artifacts from the fort as well as a collection of arrowheads. In downtown Metropolis, comic book fans will be delighted with the Superman Museum."
