Trillium Trail

Trillium Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Rich in both natural and cultural history, southern Illinois offers many options for outdoor enthusiasts. One of the highlights of the area is the 4,000-acre Giant City State Park, located just south of Carbondale, near the small artist community of Makanda. The park boasts nearly 1.2 million visitors a year and is surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest.

Hikers, horseback riders, rock climbers, campers, birders, geologists, history buffs, and nature lovers come to the park in search of outdoor recreation and solitude. Evidence of early human habitation in the area dates back 10,000 years and can be found in several of the shelter bluffs in the park. The park provides a little something for everyone."
