Dixon Springs has long been a place to welcome visitors. More than a century ago, there was a small community, with a post office, gristmill, and general store here. Later a resort developed, complete with a hotel and cabins, and people came from Illinois and neighboring states to take advantage of the purported medicinal benefits of the seven springs for which the town was named. The springs are no longer a prime attraction, but the park and surrounding area still offer lots to see and do, along with a separate, peaceful tent-camping area.
