Old Plank Road Trail

Frankfort, Illinois

Old Plank Road Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Old Plank road is for those who have long wanted to stop along those country roads lined with fields of wheat, corn, or beans to take it all in. It's for anyone who has every become mesmerized by the gently curving rows of fields but never stopped to look up close, experiencing what farmers feel when they're out in the open, with the company of clouds and sky, tending to crops on a horizontal plane of land. Because the trail is in such a good condition, it's used by bikers, in-line skaters, dog walkers, and even baby-stroller joggers.

The trail runs right into the town center of Frankfort. An arched iron sign over the trail reads Plank Road Trail, welcoming you to town. There are many places to lock your bike in the commercial center of Frankfort. At the Trolley Barn, antique maps of the area remnants from the old railroad line that once ran along the Plank Road Trail decorate the walls. Stop in for a milkshake at Sweet Mysteries. And to take full advantage of your excursion into farm country, stop in at the fresh vegetable stand just before the highway on your way out of town."
