The Chicago River Professional Review and Guide
"First it was a lethargic little stream flowing into swamplands at Lake Michigan. Later it was a virtual downspout, wicking away Chicago’s filth and corruption (well, some). For decades most people turned their backs on the river, only paying notice when barrels of green dye were dumped in on St. Patrick’s Day. But in recent years, the Chicago River has gained much in reputation. From the industrial poetry of the bridges to the open vistas possible in the ever-more-crowded skyline, the river has come to be celebrated as the vital heart of downtown. The growing flotilla of tour boats and the lengthening strands of river walks allow ever-greater numbers of people to enjoy the river. This walk starts at the mouth of the Chicago River and follows it right to the far edge of the Loop"
