South Lakefront Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Enjoy stunning views of the downtown skyline as you hike along this strip of parkland that links the city and the lake. Pass Chicago landmarks such as Soldier Field, the Field Museum, and Buckingham Fountain on your way to the new Chicago Riverwalk.

Separate trails exist along much of this section for biking and walking /running—stick to the walking trail. Dogs must be leashed."

"This leisurely trail along the Chicago Harbor is one of the most culturally vibrant walks in the world, passing three renowned museums and a bevy of historic landmarks. As you skirt the eastern edge of Chicago’s “Front Yard,” you’ll actually be walking on top of rubble from the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the first of many landfills used to create Grant Park and Museum Campus. The first half of the hike is also popular with joggers and bicycle commuters, but the rest is a surprisingly quiet stroll next to Lake Michigan’s many shades of blue."
