Once the grounds of the 1983 World’s Fair, today Jackson Park is a beautifully landscaped haven for nature lovers in one of Chicago’s most beloved neighborhoods, Hyde Park, a tree-lined, intellectual enclave that subverts all stereotypes of the city’s South Side. While the gleaming spires of Daniel Burnham’s White City are mostly long gone, several landmarks remain, including the old Palace of Fine Arts—which now houses the Museum of Science and Industry—and the otherworldly Japanese Garden on Wooded Island.
