Jackson Park Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Once the grounds of the 1983 World’s Fair, today Jackson Park is a beautifully landscaped haven for nature lovers in one of Chicago’s most beloved neighborhoods, Hyde Park, a tree-lined, intellectual enclave that subverts all stereotypes of the city’s South Side. While the gleaming spires of Daniel Burnham’s White City are mostly long gone, several landmarks remain, including the old Palace of Fine Arts—which now houses the Museum of Science and Industry—and the otherworldly Japanese Garden on Wooded Island."

"At the heart of Jackson Park is a wooded island containing a serene Japanese garden and placid lagoons lined with cattails. Much of this quiet refuge is a remnant of one of the most important events in Chicago history: the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Dogs must be leashed. As in any urban area, be mindful of your surroundings. The Jackson Park Advisory Council offers a great website with extensive information about the park and the World’s Columbian Exposition: hydepark.org /parks/jpac.html" Read more
