Bucktown Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Bucktown may well be Chicago’s most-changed community in the last 20 years. In the 1970s it was still a gritty, blue-collar, middle-class enclave; today it’s among the most fashionable in town. It’s a dynamic mix of new and old that can entertain, repulse, intrigue, and at times even thrill. But despite new homes popping up where sturdy old ones once sat (it seems like just last week), the streets here retain their 100-year-old charm, harkening back to when male goats wandered the streets and the neighborhood gained its name. And amidst a goat-load of glitzy shops and restaurants, there are some very-down-to-earth places. You hardly need walk three blocks before you encounter another classic neighborhood bar. Just northwest of Bucktown, Logan Blvd. runs through one of Chicago’s prettiest strips of graystones and other old houses."
