"The Shawnee National Forest is an incredibly diverse area, rich in both natural and cultural history. Home to hundreds of species of wildlife, the Shawnee National Forest is a true treasure in southern Illinois. Several species of threatened and endangered species can be found in the forest, including the eastern small-footed bat, the bald eagle, and the bird-voiced tree frog. Located near Kincaid Lake, the Waterfall Trail showcases many highlights of the Shawnee National Forest. The main attractions of this trail are a series of small, wetweather waterfalls and the interesting limestone and sandstone formations. It is possible to do this hike as a shuttle, but it is described as an out-and-back hike here. From the south end of the Hidden Cove Trailhead parking area, locate the trailhead for the Waterfall Trail." Read more
