The drama and beauty of this route are mesmerizing. Sometimes it’s difficult to keep your eyes on the trail as you wend your way between the Mississippi River on one side and the soaring bluffs on the other. After passing through the river town of Grafton, the trail ends at one of the most impressive state parks in Illinois. Most of the central part of this trail is best suited for cycling because it follows the wide shoulder of IL 100. The two ends of the route offer several miles of paved trail that is seperate from the roadway. The central portion of this route follows the extra wide shoulder of IL 100. While using the IL 100 shoulder, use caution. IL 100 is a busy road, particularly on summer weekends.
