Heartland Area Professional Review and Guide
"The Middle Fork of the Payette River and the South Fork of the Salmon River have their points of origin not far apart, in some of the highest Idaho country. Toward the west of it is a populated area called the Long Valley, and from the Long Valley vacationers reach some of the most popular campgrounds in Idaho.
The Long Valley is narrow and runs north to south, defined largely by its cities—McCall, Cascade, and Donnelly—and by the large bodies of water to its southwest (the Cascade Reservoir, generally referred to as Lake Cascade) and northeast (Payette Lake). Both are among the favored vacation and secondhome locations for many people in the Boise area. Public and private campgrounds are abundant near these bodies of water, but farther away, deep in the national forests around the valley, campers can find plenty of other opportunities as well."
