Goldbug Elk Bend Hot Springs

Goldbug (Elk Bend) Hot Springs Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A day hike climbing to steamy soaks and hot waterfalls in a desert canyon. It’s a bathing suit/ birthday suit mix. A brisk climb up a craggy desert canyon ends at a green oasis where lush undergrowth borders a tumbling geothermal stream. Goldbug, known locally as Elk Bend or simply Warm Springs, may be near the bottom of the list in the table of contents but certainly ranks tops as an all-time favorite."

A great little hike. I pulled into a full trailhead (6 cars) at 10 in the morning, and about 12 people passed me on their way out in the first half mile. The guide has it nailed, just don't forget to bring a beer or two!

It''s about a 2 1/2 mile trek up to the hot springs through cottonwood riparian areas and sagebrush filled slopes dotted with juniper and Douglas-fir, with the last 1000 feet being the most difficult. Wear decent footwear with a sturdy tread if traveling in fall because the soil will be slippery. Once at the hot springs, all cares are washed away, and you might completely forget about the hike you just took. It truly is a wonderful place with a multitude of pools to explore and several waterfalls to pound the blues right out of you with a water massage. I''d recommend this place to everyone who would like to escape for a little bit. A wonderful experience indeed!
