Scout Mountain - East Fork of Mink Creek

Pocatello, Idaho

Scout Mountain - East Fork of Mink Creek Professional Review and Guide

"Pleasant woodland trail leading to good views of Arbon Valley and to an old beaver pond. Especially nice is taking this hike late in the day, when the setting sun lights the forest in orange and gold.

People from Pocatello use this area to get out of the summer’s heat. This west-facing slope of Scout Mountain is characterized by aspen and conifer. Big-game species are not much present, but songbirds, maybe even an owl, can be seen, especially as you near the old beaver pond. The trail rises steadily through forest for 600 feet until it reaches a plateau and good views of the Arbon Valley to the west."

I hiked this trail during a dry autumn; earlier in the year my experience probably would have been better. The trail is used by ATVs, and there was about three inches of moon dust to wade through, which was stirred up every time a bike or ATV passed. The view is great if you continue to the top of the mountain.
