Chemeketan Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Chemeketan, which is oriented mainly as a group site, is not one of the busier sites in this region; it is not close to one of the larger lakes. It is also not one of the more developed—it has no drinking water—but an attractive wooded streamside campground. The forest service called it “a marvelously secluded group area located in a lodgepole pine understory.

Visitors can enjoy fishing for trout and steelhead in the Salmon River, exploring on the Idaho Centennial Trail, or admiring the marvelous views.” It offers merely a fine and simple camping experience in the woods, as compared with the traffic- jammed grounds of national renown (such as Redfish) located nearby. Obsidian is 11 miles south of Stanley."
