Alturas Lake

Alturas Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is one of those very busy lakeside campgrounds in the Stanley Basin, with the usual pluses and minuses. The bright side is a spectacular lakeside location high in the Sawtooth Mountains (so you get those wonderful views of the high, jagged mountains rising over the namesake Alturas Lake).

The downside is the crowds, meaning that you often have to plan far in advance to find a good site here. You can make reservations, and they’re advised; a quick call to the SRNA office to check on current conditions probably would also be a good idea."
