Moscow Mountain Majesty

Moscow Mountain Majesty Professional Review and Guide

"The sweetest singletrack surface imaginable on the North Contour Trail and portions of the Sand Trail. Cool views of the Palouse to the south and dark old-growth cedar forests looming overhead on the north side of Moscow Mountain. Local riders have created a beautiful trail system on top of Moscow Mountain, with the cooperation of a private timberland owner. This ride description takes you on a tour of the best singletrack riding on the mountain, covering the Triple Crown loops, the North Contour Trail, and the Sand Trail.

A labyrinth of dirt roads, doubletrack roads, and singletrack creates vast potential for getting lost. Pay attention to directions and, if in doubt, ask local riders for assistance. None of the trails or junctions is signed. Tread: 2.7 miles of gravel road, 4.6 miles of doubletrack, 5.9 miles of singletrack."

Actually I rode here in the mid 90's, and It's a fun area. You can ride the ridge road to the west for quite a few miles, but the best section is the single track that takes you to the sand trail. It's (at least was) packed and not muddy, a couple tech spots, but pretty flowing. Conditions don't dry out to bad in the summer, since this portion of single track is on the north side of the mountain. Riding here is nice on hot summer days, lots of trees to help keep things cool.
