Salamander Lake Loop

Salamander Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Salamander Lake hosts beautiful meadows and good wildlife habitat flanking the Continental Divide.

There are several broad, low spots in the Centennial Mountains. In these areas, the distance to the Continental Divide is not so strenuous. This hike describes one such spot with the good fortune to have retained an extensive trail system. These trails may be used to make a number of loop hikes (a rare situation in the Centennials where, in the past, trail systems have often been neglected or destroyed by logging). So far the area described here has remained intact due to lack of high-value timber combined with topography frequently changed by creeping soil and small landslides.

All of these trails are closed to motor vehicles, and a sign so indicates at the beginning. Trail Creek Trail climbs moderately through small meadows and mixed conifer forest and runs a short distance from the creek"
