Summit Creek

Summit Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A trout-fishing mecca, Summit Creek is located on the banks of the like- named stream, which is shaded with birch trees. Barney Hot Springs, across the creek, is usually just cool enough for bathing and is a rest center for some campers. About Barney, the BLM notes in one of its publications: “Strangely, there is a population of tropical fish in the pool that are fun to watch and feed.

They are the descendants of aquarium fish someone must have dumped in years ago.” There is also, for fishing, Summit Reservoir a couple of walkable miles away. Yet for all this water, there’s none to drink at the campground; be sure to bring your own. The BLM also offered this description: “This lush area is filled with many springs and creeks, which create a unique habitat for an abundance of wildlife such as songbirds and moose."
