Laird Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The largest and most popular of the forest service campgrounds around the Palouse, Laird is also one of the most unusual because of one of its features—an “artificial dam” built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

All dams are artificial, you say? Well, this one is installed and removed every spring and fall, specifically to create a swimming and recreation area for children. Part of this large campground is uphill amid the trees; the artificial dam is located down in a meadow bisected by the Palouse River. A campground host is available here in the summer."
