Best Rail Trails: Pacific Northwest
by Natalie Bartley (Falcon Guides)
If you’re looking for one of the longest paved trail in the country, visit the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, located in the northern panhandle of Idaho. It runs for 73 smooth, flat miles, offering a diverse mixture of timber and mining towns against a backdrop of wetlands, rivers, lakes, and mountains. Toss in wildlife viewing and food stops. The result is an endless opportunity for admiring the region’s lush scenery and rail history.
