Sleeping Deer Mountain Middle Fork Salmon Loop

Sleeping Deer Mountain: Middle Fork Salmon Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Sleeping Deer Mountain is a tall and impressive peak near the southeast corner of the enormous Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness. A fire lookout sits at the top of this distinctive peak, and it’s only a short walk from the end of a long dirt road.

After such a tortuous drive to get to this area, however, it is much more satisfying to explore more of this remote and scenic region by taking a wonderful backpacking loop. The recommended route heads north on view-packed but little-used trails to Woodtick Summit and Grouse Lake before making a long, steep drop to the Middle Fork Salmon River near Tappan Falls. Loop back to your starting point via the trail up Cache Creek."
