"Here are four scenic subalpine lakes high on Independence Mountain. Grand views are available of Mount Harrison, Elba Basin, Cache Peak, and the Jim Sage Mountains. The broad and easy trail, which is closed to motorized vehicles, climbs gently across the forested north face of Independence Mountain toward Green Creek, staying far above Dry Creek. There are breaks and meadows in the fir, spruce, and aspen forest with outstanding views to the north and northeast." Read more

A really great day hike or excellent backpack. The hike is a steady incline, definitely moderate, with so many beautiful scenic rewards along the way. There are plenty of camp areas at each of the pretty lakes.

This trail is an excellent day hike, especially for the young people. We made this hike the inaugural overnighter when my grandson turned 7. Although his packs contents got spread out a little before he reached the lakes, he did make it just fine. A beautiful set of 4 lakes set in the pine and granite forest.
