Shafer Butte

Shafer Butte Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is the federal campground closest to Idaho’s largest metropolitan area, and it gets plenty of use. At 7,000 feet Boiseans can rise above the atmosphere of the city and see clear blue sky on days when inversion strikes below; many Boiseans already accustomed to skiing at Bogus Basin Ski Area (which is not far away, and en route here) have trekked the few extra miles to Shafer Butte to the attractive camping area. Aspen and Douglas fir trees shade many of the sites.

Finding the campground: From Boise drive 16 miles northeast on Bogus Basin Road, then 3 miles north on FR 374, and then 1.5 miles east on Shafer Butte Road."
