Big Eddy

Big Eddy Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Of the four campgrounds on ID 55 between Banks and Smiths Ferry (the other three are Canyon, Cold Springs, and Swinging Bridge), Big Eddy is the only one on the river side of the highway. That sounds awfully exposed, with the highway traffic roaring by on one side and the river roaring down below.

But thanks to some shrewd design, this shady and hilly patch of ground feels more remote than it is. This is a good spot for some whitewater river fishing and even better as an access point for whitewater kayaking, for which the Big Eddy area is an epicenter. Bring your own drinking water; Big Eddy has none."
